Concrete does not dry; it cures through a chemical reaction called hydration. During hydration, cement compounds bond with water molecules to form crystalline structures that lock aggregates together. This process requires continuous moisture and controlled temperatures to reach the target compressive strength.

The standard timeline to measure concrete strength gain is 28 days. Compressive strength develops rapidly during the first week and slows down over the following weeks:
